Shaun is back, which means the computer is back, so I spent the day updating blogs and chasing-up visa issues. I have a weird, conflicting feeling of needing to get on with the trip, but knowing we are stuck until Myanmar opens up to us.
Right now we are 2 weeks behind schedule. The problem is Myanmar. The privilege of riding through Myanmar is rare, and can only be done with a government sanctioned guide following in a support vehicle, on a pre-approved path, with pre-booked good hotels on a strict itinerary. If you have read the blog this far, you will know that this is not how twenty one horses rolls… The biggest problem with this turd sandwich however, is that we have had to pay almost $3,000 for the ‘privilege’. This makes Myanmar by far the most expensive country, and has severely dinted my initial trip budget of $7,000 (total).
Anyway, the point is we cannot get into Myanmar until 29 April, which means we cannot get into India until 4 May, which leaves us some serious km to cover to get to Europe in a short amount of time... It’s a problem I cannot solve now so I am going to try not to think about it too much.
On the visa front we appear to be mostly sorted except for Iran – which looks like it might sort itself out in the next few weeks (fingers crossed).
