A MOTORCYCLE ADVENTURE BLOG

Spinning wheels and motorcycle air freight

Day 6 – 5/03/2015
Start – Adelaide
Finish – Adelaide
Distance travelled – 0km
Words by - Johnny Bang
A day of wins and losses in Adelaide putting out spot fires and chasing unicorns… It has been a day of problem solving – only it seems that each problem solved spawns five more problems. There have been a plethora of little issues we have been wading through preparing the bikes for air freight. Here is a quick example:

Problem - We need crates to ship the bikes. Solution - Tim from Yamaha World Adelaide – an awesome hell man that sorted us some crates.

Problem - The bikes are ‘dangerous goods’. Solution – drain and flush petrol, and make sure bike is spotlessly clean for customs.

Problem – No freight depots are open on the weekend in Adelaide and Monday is a public holiday. Solution – Pack and store the bikes somewhere safe until they can be picked up Tuesday morning.

On-top of this, all the bikes need an oil change, new chains, rear tyres, and assorted miscellaneous items (before they get crated tomorrow morning). So it’s been a crazy day of logistics - hiring cars to transport things, phone calls and emails.

It was all nearly getting the better of me this afternoon, until I was reminded that I am on an adventure motorcycle ride around the world (and told myself to suck-it-up, princess). Idea for new motto – A bad day on the trip is still a good day in life.

So now tonight we are relaxing in the backyard with our awesome hosts and new friends Paul and Zoe (did I mention we weaselled our way into some lovely people’s house in Adelaide?) We have repaid their fantastic hospitality with dirty bike parts all over the yard and stinky clothes strewn on the line. I suspect it will be a long time before they invite three smelly bikies into their house again.
