The next morning, I woke up at 9am. Grogy confusion slowly metamorphed into a mild panic. I was met to pick up my wife, Katie at the Bangkok airport at 10am, the airport was 240 K’s away. I was going to be late. Somehow… a few beers in the arvo turned into an all-night bender, I didn’t even set my alarm when I fell into bed at 4am. Johnny Bang was fast asleep, naked on the couch, Dan snored in restless fits from the queen-size bed he was sprawled across. I loaded my bike, pushed it out of the hotel complex, and hammered it as fast as I could towards Bangkok. Weaving through the traffic I held the throttle pinned open, the Sherpa pumped his little one cylinder heart out. Somewhere along the way I took a wrong turn, frustrated I attempted to turn around in the large drainage ditch in the middle of the motorway, which is when I dropped my bike, with all the weight of the bike facing uphill. My head was already pounding, after struggling to get my bike to its wheels, I was in a world of unpleasantness. But relived once again we had chosen light weight adventure bikes, I laughed at the thought of my self struggling to pick up a BMW 1200GS or similar, but then if I had paid for one of those I probably would have stayed back in Australia, working for the man, saving for the mandatory accessories, riding down the coast on a weekend to have a coffee with some cyclists, polishing my parts... Back on the road, heading in the right direction, I was able to contact Katie by the messenger app. She was not stoked, 2 hours later, I arrived at the airport, 3 hours late. I mentioned how bad the traffic was (not how many beers I may have had) and luckily did not receive any capitol punishment. We were ready to adventure.
Katie and I rode into an unknown part of Bangkok searching for a hotel we found on the internet, soon the large streets gave way to an exciting area where colorful old buildings skirting the roads edge. Finding the hotel we pulled in, normally the bike loaded with gear generates interest but now with my Katie cargo people excitedly gathered around firing questions from exotic machine gun mouths. Soon the hotel owner appeared and regrettably informed us that her hotel was full. Without direction we rode off.  We were both thirsty and tried, these fundamental human needs were trumped however by the stoke we found turning into a tightly packed lane way full of character personified by a vivacious Thai party spirit. Street stalls set up on modified bicycles and scooters pumped aromas and party fever into the air as their food and cocktails aroused the crowd. Restaurants perpetuated relaxed vibes as green vines dangled from the roofs reaching for unguarded Chang beers. Rhythmic beats fought sonic battles in the air as close by bars competed for the human with the happy feet affliction. Backpackers shrugged off heavy burdens losing tensions to the hands of Thai Masseuses. Katie and I fell through the crowd arriving at a New Siam hotel, which was indeed new as it was in the final stages of construction. The position, discounted room rate and secure place for my motor-bicycle proved to good an opportunity to ride past.

The next five days become an adventure within an adventure as Katie and I explore Bangkok together. My blog stories will take a rest as I recharge my overused word bank and enjoy my lady friends company.
